Through this year I will be writing a longer story called Banana Pancakes. Through this each post will be a short story forming a larger story. To check out the part 43 click here, or go to the very beginning with Conversation through a door here.
“I think it’s time to tell you what happened.” Troy said to Victoria as they lay in bed one morning.
She turned, looking at him, “What do you mean?”
“That person, the girl I saw on xHalloween. It was Jess.”
She just lay not knowing what to say.
“She used to come every year to that party, I think. I think it’s about time you knew.”
Troy closed his eyes, thinking back to that dreadful night of his.
The rain beated down outside as Troy, soaked in water stumbled through the apartment halls in the dim light.
He checked his watch, carrying some flowers and rushing, almost tripping over his feet as he did to get back home.
Arriving at the door, he checked the watch again, nice and early, unexpected. Quietly, he opened the apartment door, moving inside.
He heard music, soft to the tone and giggling. Did she have a friend round? The thought was a fleeting moment.
Walking into the room, he saw it, Jess tumbling round the floor, naked with another man, James, someone he barely knew through her. There was nothing tactile about the situation.
Everything froze around him, the entire moment burning into him forever.
“This is what happened, between you and Jess?”
“Yeah. Sadly, this was the worst moment of my life.” He said, recollecting the thought once again.
Jess and James reacted almost instantly, their mouths moving as they stumbled around to grab their clothes but everything moved slowly, silently and he couldn’t hear a word.
Murmurs, that’s all that existed in the room at that very moment. Troy tumbling through the eye of the universe.
James quickly moved past Troy, still with no reaction as he was so near to him. He didn’t say anything, just watched as Jess started crying, suddenly the words flooding in.
“Troy, it’s not what it looks like. Honest.”
She went right up to Troy, now partly dressed, “Please, just say something, please.”
He turned and walked back out the apartment, still dripping of water and unable to talk. He saw James quickly run further down the hall as he left and as he started to move away, Jess cane running out behind him.
“Troy, please. Say something. Talk to me. I’m sorry.”
He turned, looked right into her eyes, “What do you want me to say?”
She just looked back at him, years rolling down her face. She reached for his hand, trying to hold onto it.
“How could you? How, why?”
She just cried more, holding his hand and moving to rub it on her face.
“I can’t do this anymore Troy. I really can’t.”
He didn’t know what to say, speechless, words escaping him. He just looked at her tears, thinking where they fake, did he even know her anymore.
“What do you mean, us? Is that why James is here? That’s why you thought you could cheat, do all that?”
She just looked at him again, removing his hand now from her face, “I think. I think we should end.”
He was blasted out of existence. His life unraveling all at once.
In that split second he’d lost everything, however but he didn’t seethe, he just felt empty.
Victoria just looked at Troy whilst in bed, stroking her hand against his face.
“I never knew all that happened, I mean, you’d mentioned Jess, stuff went down, but I never thought that.”
“Yeah, caught her cheating, after all that time together. Then without even talking she just tells me she’s leaving, going away.”
Victoria knee this hurt Troy to say, “Thank you for being honest.”
“It put me in a bad place, a really bad place. But now, now I’m alright.”
“Do you still love her?”
He paused, thinking back at the hallway that night.
“You do this, all this then say that’s it?”
“I’ve been thinking about it for a while Troy, I just can’t do this anymore. I’m done.”
He didn’t say anything, just turned around and walked off into a new life, filled with brief darkness but at the time Troy didn’t think he’d see the light again.
“Thankfully, that all happened and it brought me here, to you.”
He kissed Victoria and the pair smiled.
“I’m out of the dark and in the light now.”
